The setting
A hill above the river, at the end of the road.
Astoria is a small town where the Columbia meets the Pacific, and Virtue at The Pointe looks out over the water and the Megler Bridge. People come here from across the country partly because it is far from wherever things fell apart — and partly because it is genuinely beautiful, which turns out to matter more than anyone expects during the hardest weeks of their life.

Two levels of care
Stabilize, then stay and do the work.
Most guests stabilize in detox and move into residential without changing buildings or teams. Individual therapy once or twice a week, more if you need it.
Medically supervised detox
Nursing on site around the clock, with psychiatric medication management from the start.
Residential treatment
Individual and group therapy, and family sessions seven days a week by Zoom, phone or in person.
Who this program
is built for
This is a substance-use program with co-occurring mental health support— not a mental-health-primary program. If someone's main concern is a mental health condition without an active substance use issue, call us anyway and we'll help find a program suited to that. And there is no outpatient programming in Oregon— detox and residential only.
A week here
The parts people remember.
Clinical work is the spine of the week — individual sessions, groups, psychiatric medication management. These are the things guests talk about afterwards.

Equine therapy
You don't ride. You choose a horse and work with it, guided by an instructor, in a small group.

Aquatic center & gym
Four days a week — pool, hot tub, weights, treadmill.

Community outings
Weekly trips into Astoria itself, in small groups.
Outings rotate

Your first day
Nobody walks in alone.
Arriving is the hardest part of the day for most people. Three small things make it easier, and they happen before anyone asks you to talk about yourself.
Led by Josh Davis, BSW, PSS, QMHA-I, CADC-RRegional Executive Director · U.S. Army Veteran
A peer leader
A current client is paired with you to help you settle in — the same idea as a battle buddy.
A welcome letter
Written for you, waiting when you arrive.
A notebook
Yours, for encouragement notes from the people in the house with you.
Clinical approach
Evidence-based, in individual and group sessions.
Individual therapy once or twice a week — more if you need it — with psychiatric medication management integrated into your plan rather than bolted on. Family sessions run one to two times a week, seven days a week by Zoom, phone or in person, which matters when your family can't drive to the coast.

Coverage, honestly
What your plan covers here depends on your plan.
We'd rather tell you now than have you arrive and find out. One phone call settles it — verification is free and takes minutes.
Commercial insurance
Detox and residential
Most commercial and PPO plans cover both levels of care here, subject to your specific plan and medical necessity.
Some plans
Detox only
Certain plans cover a short medical detox stay but not longer residential care. If that's your plan, we'll tell you before you travel.
Private pay
Detox and residential
Private pay is available for both levels of care. Admissions will walk you through the details before you commit to anything.
Insurance
We accept most major insurance plans.
UnitedHealthcare and Cigna lead here, alongside Providence Health Plan and PacificSource — the two plans Oregon families recognize — and a range of other commercial plans. TriWest is accepted for veterans using VA Community Care. If your plan isn't shown, call — most PPO plans are accepted.
Also accepted here
Providence and PacificSource: commercial plans. Coverage varies by plan and level of care — a free verification confirms exactly what applies to you.
The honest version
Detox Is Usually Where This Starts — and Where Most People Call Us From
Most calls we get about Astoria are about detox first, not residential — and that's exactly where we're built to meet you. Medical detox here includes methadone continuation for those who need it, not just a taper and a discharge plan. Once you're through the acute phase, residential treatment on the same campus is the natural next step if that's what you need — all with the same team, on the same hill above the river.

★★★★★
This is one of the best places to detox at, a nice view of the ocean, queen size bed, meals are brought to you the first 3 days while you’re resting, easy access to the restroom, a tv in the room for you and your roommate. And if you want to go outside to smoke your cigarettes, you can ( anytime) . The staff is caring and they check in with you after you get discharged to see how you’re doing and if there is anything they can do to help. It’s hard to get to the door, the other part is just doing it and having a different perspective of how you want your life to be. I would recommend this to anyone. Thank you for the opportunity. ❤️

What a great place to heal and learn about addiction. They take really good care of you. From the nursing staff and the Counselors!! The food was phenomenal! This place and the people in it saved my life! I will forever be grateful!
★★★★★
Great facility and staff! The nurses were awesome; the food was delicious; my counselor very cool; my case manager extremely helpful. My peers treated me like a friend and their Recovery program was solid. Highly recommend.

Virtue Recovery created an environment where healing was possible, and made it as pleasant, as can be, when I was at my most vulnerable. The medical team stayed attentive to my symptoms and comfort, and the staff checked in consistently, making sure I never felt alone or overwhelmed. They made me feel safe, treating me with the utmost patience and respect, every step of the way. I’m deeply grateful for the care I received. They continue to check on me, even still today, reminding me that their treatment doesn't end at the door. It means so much to have such ongoing support through this very difficult chapter of my life.

I most recently spent a 7 day detox from alcohol here and honestly I don’t even know where to begin…. Not only was I treated with the utmost wonderful care, I truly felt as if I belonged there. Sadly this was my 5 th time trying a detox. The other places I have tried drugged me up and kicked me out. With no real sense of direction or support to make me feel as if I could stay sober. (I was detoxing from alcohol) I actually cried leaving the center. The lifelong friendships I gained will remain with me forever. The staff never faltered on calling me by my name and actually remembering who I was unlike most detox centers. The nurses take excellent care of you too while in detox. They help you detox safely and make sure your comfortable while not overmedicating either. I can not even write into words how grateful and thankful I am for Virtue. If you’re considering any place to detox or even do inpatient treatment, this is your place to go. Thank you so much Virtue staff, counselors and kitchen staff (I ate so good there as well)!!! I had the best experience!
★★★★★
Virtue Recovery was a great experience for me. The facility is clean and the staff is respectful and patient. I feel welcomed and safe there. Good food too. Although I never plan on relapse, it's reassuring to know that I can go back if necessary. They also helped me find a nice 30 day residential facility. I definitely recommend Virtue Recovery, just make the call.

I was supposed to go to White City VA, (I am a combat veteran) but when I got there, I was told I needed to detox and I was sent here. At first, I was absolutely terrified as the VA took me to the hospital in Medford, but from the moment I was picked up by their driver, to the day of my discharge, I was treated in a way I have rarely been treated at any other facility, and that is with the dignity and respect that I’ve always wanted to have as a human, they cared about my diet they cared about my needs. They were there for me when I was scared they help me when I was at my lowest. And gave me another chance at life something you can’t put a price on, but I’ll always be thankful for. The food was also really good and the person in charge of the kitchen is awesome ( am I allowed to say Annie?) . Thank you for taking such good care of me and that goes for everybody that was here. I don’t have a negative thing to say about anything except the reason why I had to come here, but it was a very positive experience and you get to be in Astoria beautiful story where they film the goonies detoxing sucks, but it didn’t suck so bad being here thank you.
★★★★★
Connection! Is exactly what I got from this place. The staff. The councilors and therapists. Man! Frikken the best one on one I ever got. Just like any other facility. Certain areas need work. But not enough bad that’s gonna outweigh the good here at virtue. Eric. Wendy. Chris. Stephanie. Miki. Paige. And so many more that influenced my and my inspirations to being better. I advise anyone who needs help. Reach out. It works
