Warriors Path

The veteran program the rest of the network learned from.

Warriors Path started in Killeen, minutes from Fort Cavazos, and it is still run here by people who served. It is veteran-specific residential programming inside the same clinical structure as the rest of the facility — not a badge on a brochure.

How VA and TRICARE benefits work here

  1. 1

TRICARE Prime and Select, and TriWest

Contracted here. TRICARE For Life is not.

  2. 2

VA benefits may cover outpatient first

Inpatient care often needs a specific VA community care authorization before it is covered.

  3. 3

We help you get that authorization

Our team works the community care referral with you rather than sending you back to the VA alone.

Levels of care

Stabilize, stay, then step down.

Most guests begin in medical detox and move into residential care as one continuous treatment plan, then step down through outpatient. Killeen and Las Vegas are the only two locations in the network with outpatient programming.

Medical detox

Typically seven to ten days, with nursing on site. Methadone and benzodiazepine detox are both supported — a higher starting methadone dose usually means a harder detox, and we will say so before you arrive.

Residential treatment

Commonly around thirty days depending on your plan. Weekly individual counseling, daily groups, and case management that coordinates with courts and probation when that applies.

PHP, IOP and Virtual IOP

Outpatient step-down after residential, and a virtual IOP that works for military families and clients who don't live nearby.

Who this program is built for

This is a substance-use program with co-occurring mental health support. If someone is in an active psychiatric crisis without a stabilized substance use issue, we may recommend psychiatric stabilization first — call anyway and we'll help you find the right next step.

Not a standalone MAT clinic

We can safely taper you off Suboxone or methadone as part of inpatient care, but we don't provide outpatient MAT on its own. If that's what you're looking for, we'll point you to a provider who does.

Clinical approach

Evidence-based, in individual and group sessions.

Weekly individual counseling and daily groups, with psychiatric medication management built into your plan rather than bolted on. Case management coordinates documentation with probation officers, case workers and court liaisons when that's part of your situation.

Rooms here are shared

All rooms are double occupancy. Veteran clients may be considered for an exception, and availability depends on census — admissions will give you an accurate answer for your specific admission.

Insurance

We accept most major insurance plans.

UnitedHealthcare and Optum, Aetna including Cofinity and First Health, and Cigna (EverNorth) lead here, alongside TRICARE and TriWest for the military community. If your plan isn't shown, call — most PPO plans are accepted.

If you have a marketplace plan

For marketplace and exchange plans we need a screenshot showing your premium is paid and your coverage is active before we can verify benefits. It's one step, our team will tell you exactly what to send, and it protects you from finding a gap in coverage after you're admitted.

The team

Who runs the clinical program here.

The people responsible for medical care, the clinical program, admissions and Warriors Path. Many of them are in recovery themselves or come from families affected by addiction.

People stay. That is the number that matters.

Most people who leave treatment early leave in the first week. We track how many stay, how long they stay, and whether they are still doing well two and three months after discharge.

Virtue has been one of the best experiences that I have had on my journey to recovery. The staff is all very amazing , kind , compassionate, and I would recommend anyone , in any state , who’s trying to get clean & get a good jump start on recovery to go here. I spent 27 hours to a bus from South Carolina to Texas & that was the best thing I did in my life. #VirtueRecovery #ItIsPossible #WeDoRecover

I recommend Virtue Recovery Center to anyone looking for a well-rounded and accommodating rehab facility. ESA and service animals are allowed. They have awesome staff, the food is GREAT, and they go to outside meetings and outings. BHT Victor was always great with me and my dog.

Virtue Recovery is a true blessing. The staff is incredible, the food is great, the beds are comfortable, the gym is awesome, and the facility is always clean. All staff, from housekeeping to doctors, were always smiling and willing to go the extra mile. My experience here was more than I could have hoped for. I'd recommend ANYONE to check in to Virtue if you are seeking help and want to regain control of your life.

I am so grateful for Virtue. It has given me and so many more hope that there is a future for us. The staff is beyond patient and kind, the intake is smooth and efficient, the food is fantastic, and the therapy is absolutely phenomenal. I received a call back after I discharged just to check in on me. I don't know any other facility that cares about their clients the way the Virtue staff in Killeen does.

The honest version

Two Things Are True at Killeen: This Is a Veteran Flagship, and It's Built for Anyone Ready for Residential Care

Being minutes from Fort Cavazos means Warriors Path isn't a side program here — it's a daily reality, with real coordination through VA Community Care and TriWest. But veteran or not, most people arriving here are looking for the same thing: residential treatment that goes further than detox alone. Killeen is built for both — a dedicated veteran track and a full residential continuum, backed by a 4.9-star reputation that's earned, not advertised.

Common questions

Questions about Killeen

You can call and ask any of these directly. No obligation, no pressure — someone answers 24 hours a day.

(866) 461-3339
Does Virtue Recovery Killeen take my insurance?
We accept most major insurance plans, along with a range of other commercial PPO plans. Coverage varies by plan, so the fastest way to know for certain is a quick, free insurance verification with our admissions team.
Do you offer both detox and residential treatment?
Yes — most guests begin in medical detox, typically seven to ten days, and transition into residential care, commonly around thirty days depending on your plan, as part of one continuous treatment plan. Our team will walk you through the expected timeline for your specific situation.
Do you have a program for veterans?
Yes — Killeen is home to Warriors Path, our flagship program for veterans, and we work with TRICARE and TriWest. For veterans using VA benefits, inpatient coverage sometimes requires a specific VA community care authorization — our team can help you understand and navigate that process rather than leaving you to figure it out alone.
What if I don't have insurance?
Private pay is available for both detox and residential treatment. Our admissions team will talk through your options honestly, including a free insurance verification, before you commit to anything.
Why do you need a screenshot of my insurance app?
For certain marketplace plans, we need to see proof that your premium is currently paid and your coverage is active before we can verify your specific benefits — this protects you from a surprise gap in coverage once you're admitted. It's a quick step, and our team will walk you through exactly what to send.
Can I get treatment here if I have a court date or I'm on probation?
Yes — we regularly work with clients navigating court, probation or Drug Court requirements, including coordinating documentation with case managers, probation officers and court liaisons. You don't need this figured out before you call.
Do you offer Suboxone or MAT as a standalone outpatient service?
MAT here is part of a treatment episode rather than a stand-alone clinic service. If you're admitted for residential treatment, our medical team can safely support you in tapering off these medications as part of your care. If you're specifically looking for ongoing outpatient MAT only, we can help point you toward the right kind of provider instead.
Will I have my own room?
Rooms here are shared, double occupancy, rather than private, though veteran clients may be considered for an exception. Our admissions team can give you the most accurate picture for your specific admission.
What if my loved one is having a mental health crisis, not just a substance problem?
Our program is built around substance use with co-occurring mental health support, so if someone is in an active psychiatric crisis without a stabilized substance use issue, we may recommend psychiatric stabilization first. Call us — we'll help you understand the right next step even if it's not directly with us.
Can my spouse and I come to treatment together?
This is evaluated case-by-case and requires clinical approval rather than being offered as a standard program — call our admissions team to talk through your specific circumstances.
Can you admit someone who is pregnant?
Pregnant clients can be admitted up to thirty weeks at our Texas locations, with a medical team review and confirmed OB/GYN care in place before admission. Call and we'll walk through what that review involves.
