Where to start

Two facilities, two ends of the state.

Both run medical detox and residential treatment on one site, so nobody changes providers halfway through. Which one you choose usually comes down to geography and to whether the veteran program matters to you.

Virtue Recovery Center Killeen
Detox · Residential · Virtual IOP · Veterans

Killeen — Central Texas

5200 S WS Young Dr, Killeen TX 76542

Home of Warriors Path, our veteran program, next door to Fort Cavazos — and the busiest source of military and veteran calls in the network. Adults 18 and over, substance use and co-occurring conditions, with a 4.9-star Google rating across 286 reviews.

Virtue Recovery Houston
Detox · Residential

Houston — Gulf Coast

Southwest Houston, Harris County

A quiet residential site with detox and residential treatment on one campus, Joint Commission accredited. Everyone admitted sees a psychiatrist within 24 hours, which is unusual and matters when mental health is part of the picture.

Texas’s signature program

Warriors Path, next door to Fort Cavazos.

More veterans and service members call our Killeen facility than any other in the network, and the program was built around that rather than adapted to it. Warriors Path treats substance use alongside the things that usually come with it — trauma, chronic pain, sleep that stopped working years ago.

TRICARE and TriWest are accepted, and the team coordinates VA Community Care referrals. Several of the staff are veterans themselves, which changes the first conversation more than most people expect.

What we treat

Alcohol and meth, neck and neck.

Across both Texas facilities, alcohol and methamphetamine are almost exactly level as the substances people call about, with opioids and fentanyl third. All of it is treated at both sites, at whichever level the assessment points to.

Alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal in particular can be dangerous without medical supervision, which is the reason both facilities start with detox rather than treatment.

Paying for treatment

In network with most major Texas plans.

Insurance is the first question almost every Texas caller asks, and the network here is broad — national carriers, the regional plans, and TRICARE West and TriWest for military families and veterans.

UnitedHealthcare
Aetna
Cigna (EverNorth)
Blue Cross Blue Shield
TriWest

First Choice Health

Also in network with HealthCare Highway Plus, CHRISTUS Health Plan, Ambetter and Superior commercial exchange plans, HealthChoice of Oklahoma, America’s PPO and the World Trade Center Health Program — and most PPO plans accepted.

If a court is involved

Court-ordered treatment is a normal call here.

A significant share of Texas callers are dealing with a legal matter alongside the addiction — a court date, a probation requirement, an attorney asking what treatment looks like. Nobody here treats that as a mark against you.

Case management at both facilities supports the practical side, including documentation of attendance and completion where it is required. Say on the first call that a court is involved, and it gets built into the plan rather than handled at the end.

Do you take my insurance, TRICARE or TriWest?
Yes to TRICARE West and TriWest — both are accepted at our Texas facilities, and our team coordinates VA Community Care referrals for veterans. On the commercial side we are in network with UnitedHealthcare and Optum, Aetna, Cigna (EverNorth), Blue Cross Blue Shield commercial plans, Baylor Scott & White, Carelon, Magellan, Curative, HealthSmart, Uprise Health, First Choice Health, HealthCare Highway Plus, CHRISTUS Health Plan, Ambetter and Superior commercial exchange plans, HealthChoice of Oklahoma and America’s PPO, plus most PPO plans. A free, confidential verification is the fastest way to know what yours covers.
Where in Texas are you located?
We have two facilities. Killeen sits in Central Texas, next to Fort Cavazos and about an hour from Austin, and Houston is on the Gulf Coast in Harris County. Both offer medical detox and residential treatment, and many people travel from elsewhere in Texas to reach one of them.
Do you have inpatient rehab, or just detox?
Both, at both facilities. Medical detox and residential treatment run on the same campus in Killeen and in Houston, so you move from one to the other with the same team rather than being discharged and referred somewhere else. Detox usually runs several days; residential is measured in weeks.
Do you have a veterans program?
Yes — Warriors Path at our Killeen facility, next door to Fort Cavazos. It treats substance use alongside trauma, chronic pain and the other things that commonly come with service, and several of the staff are veterans themselves. TRICARE and TriWest are accepted, and the team coordinates VA Community Care.
Do you offer virtual or outpatient options?
Our Killeen facility runs a virtual intensive outpatient program (VIOP), which lets people take part from anywhere in Texas. It was built for people facing distance or transportation barriers, including military families, and it is a practical option when getting to a building several days a week is not realistic.
Do you take court-ordered clients, or help with documentation?
Yes. Court involvement is common among the people we admit in Texas, and case management at both facilities supports the practical side of it, including documentation of attendance and completion where a court or an attorney requires it. Mention it on the first call so it can be built into your plan from the start.
How much does treatment cost?
Cost depends on your level of care, your length of stay and your insurance, so a free verification is a more useful first step than a number on a page. Our team will tell you what your plan covers and what, if anything, you would be responsible for — before you commit to anything.

One call covers the insurance, the facility and the next step.

Tell us where you are in Texas and what is going on. Our team will verify your plan, tell you which facility fits, and walk you through what happens next — in one conversation, at no cost.
